鬼鎮神社は、畠山重忠が菅谷館築造のとき、東北の鬼門除けとして祭ったと
伝えられ、金棒を持った鬼が奉納されています。
戦時中は軍人や家族の参拝でにぎわい、今は受験生の祈願でにぎわっています。
また、変わった節分として、鬼鎮神社では、２月３日の節分に
「福は内、鬼は内、悪魔はそと」と豆をまき、金棒を持った赤・青鬼の厄除け
が行われることで全国に知られています。

In Japan,the demon is thought to be one of the lesser dieties and is often depicted as a ferocious loooking giant holding an iron club in its hand.
The Kijin shrine is unique in Japan because it is supposed to house a good demon who is the symbol of strength. People have dedicated many iron clubs and rods to this shrine to pray for good fortune in gambling or for their succes in school exmaminations. On February 3rd of every year,those chosen to represent this shrine scatter parched beans ti drive out evil sririts from their homes.
They scatter the beans and shout: "Fortune in,Good Demone in,Bad Demones out!"
